It’s a good thing *we’re* not like that, right?
If we fall short, it’s not because of faulty ideals. The recognition of human equality expressed in the Declaration of Independence is a solid foundation, not just for America, but for the world. It’s the underpinning argument for human rights, and self-government.
In America, when we falter, it’s usually because we falter in relationship to our stated ideals of equality. When we do falter in our ideals, great leaders remind us about them. It’s no accident that Abraham Lincoln invoked the Declaration of Independence in the “Gettysburg Address,” as did Martin Luther King, Jr. in his “I Have a Dream” speech. In each case, we moved forward, so maybe there is hope.
Didn’t mean to get so deep. I couldn’t think of a cool, pithy way to say that.
I finally finished reading all of Space Corps up to this page. I am really impressed with the work so far!! Seriously, well done guys. I just wish I had jumped on board earlier. Brockett is my favorite character but I want to see what Santiago does as I think he will be an interesting character as well. I really liked the artwork on Issue 0 as well as being in full color. That surprised me as I was thinking it would all be black and white. In reading the comments I see that Gannon needed a way to speed up the process and I think he found a great style moving forward using the grey tones. Are there plans to eventually color the new pages or is the plan to keep them as is? Another question on my mind is if there is a plan to print a graphic novel of the work, and if so, how many more pages/issues until that arc is ready to print? Keep up the good work, this is a book destined for great things.
Thanks, Patrick!
There are no plans to make the regular story in color. When I was experimenting with faster styles, I did do a color option that was done with water color. Ultimately, I like the way the gray tones help connect Space Corps emotionally with old War War 2 footage. There is another story telling reason for it as well, but that will become clear in time.
The initial story arc from #1 is a six issue arc. Bryan and I have the story figured out all the way through #6 but it needs to be paced out. After we’re done with issue #3, we’re going to rough out the rest of the story in detail before we start posting again. There might be a slight gap in posting, but maybe not. There are a lot of emotional notes we’re going to have to hit, and we want to make sure we’ve got it right. There are a lot of cool scenes coming up–scenes I’ve been chomping a the bit to draw.
As far as collecting the six issues into publication, we’ll have to see how things play out. There are several options for that, but nothing is set in stone at the moment.
In addition to the ongoing story, we do want to do more 8 page short stories. Those will be in color. While I want the style of the art for the main ongoing series to be consistent, I’d like to use the short stories to experiment a bit more. We’ve already got a bunch of stories lined up. Once we have enough (maybe 48 pages the next time), we’ll probably collect them in print as well.
We’ll see how it all plays out. In the mean time, we’ll keep working on the pages and posting them here. The next one should be up on Friday.
Glad to hear there are more issues to come in this arc Gannon. I hope I didn’t sound like I didn’t like the grey tones, because I do. I just wasn’t expecting to see color on the earlier pages. But I’m definitely hooked now. You are really doing awesome work on this. Looking forward to Friday’s post!
Thanks! I like doing stories in both black and white and in color. In fact, I’d like to use the short stories to experiment a bit with different digital and traditional approaches.
